We are so blessed to have such a wonderful library at St. Thomas, and I enjoy my time being the librarian immensely. Watching the excited students on library day when I have new books ready for check out creates feelings that would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Students can come in during their scheduled times each week to check out books, do research, and (if we have time with the younger grades) I read them a story.
We also hold events such as the Scholastic Book Fair and Adopt-A-Book Program. The book fair begins at the end of November, and for one week students have a chance to buy books and fill out wish lists for gift ideas. It also gives the teachers a chance to expand their own collections. Everyone, especially the students, loves this time and all the proceeds from the book fair go to the library.
Our Adopt-A-Book Program occurs on Grandparents' Day. Grandparents or parents purchase books for the library and get to put a nameplate of their family inside the book. These books are nominees from the Illinois School Library Media Association that students have the option to read and then vote for their favorite. We are one of the many school libraries in Illinois that participate in this program.
With all that we do, our library would still be lacking without the help from those who generously donate books. Thank you for all of your donations and know that you have a hand in creating the magic that is our library.
